Controversy Over Les Cayes–Miami Flight Route: Airport Authority Rebuts IBC Airways’ Claims

Port-au-Prince | July 17, 2025 — As IBC Airways publicly accuses Haiti’s National Airport Authority (AAN) of ignoring its requests to establish a direct flight route between Les Cayes and Miami, the head of the AAN has come forward to refute the claims and provide clarification.

Speaking on the popular radio program Panel Magik on Magik 9 this Wednesday, AAN Director General Yves Ducarmel François strongly denied allegations that the agency blocked the airline’s efforts. According to François, the AAN not only responded to IBC Airways’ inquiries but also actively engaged with the company and supported its application process.

“We didn’t just acknowledge their correspondence,” François stated firmly. “We went beyond that and provided guidance throughout their proposal.” He added that the leadership of IBC Airways was received by AAN officials and given appropriate assistance.

The controversy stems from a recent test flight conducted by IBC Airways at Les Cayes airport, which raised hopes of launching a direct international connection between the southern Haitian city and Miami. However, conflicting narratives have emerged since, with IBC suggesting bureaucratic inertia while the AAN insists it has acted in good faith.

François emphasized that the Airport Authority has always been open to facilitating the development of new air routes, especially those that can help decentralize international travel in Haiti. He suggested that any delays may be due to regulatory or logistical issues beyond the AAN’s control.

As discussions continue, the future of the Les Cayes–Miami route remains uncertain. Still, the AAN maintains that it stands ready to support any serious aviation initiative that aligns with national standards and benefits regional development.
