Donation Strengthening Law Enforcement in the Fight Against Crime

Haiti’s law enforcement agencies received significant reinforcement as the United States delivered a $6 million shipment of heavy equipment to the Haitian National Police (PNH). The donation, which arrived on Monday, February 10, 2025, includes 600 firearms, several vehicles, and essential heavy machinery such as backhoe loaders and a lowboy trailer. This initiative, spearheaded by the U.S. Department of State through the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), seeks to enhance the capacity of Haiti’s security forces in combating rising criminal activities.

The formal transfer ceremony took place at the PNH headquarters in Clercine, with the presence of high-ranking officials, including Leslie Voltaire, President of the Transitional Presidential Council; Rameau Normil, Acting Director General of the PNH; Denis B. Hankins, U.S. ambassador to Haiti; and Godfrey Otunge, Commander-in-Chief of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM).

The donated equipment includes nine Toyota and Ford vehicles, two trucks, two backhoe loaders, two wheel loaders, and a lowboy trailer. Additionally, the PNH acquired 600 rifles to strengthen its firepower. This contribution aligns with ongoing efforts to modernize Haiti’s security forces’ logistical and tactical capabilities.

“These provisions will bolster the operational efficiency of the Police, the Haitian Armed Forces, and the Multinational Security Support Mission, which are actively engaged in security operations. This equipment will also enable security forces to reclaim gang-controlled areas,” stated Ambassador Hankins during the event, commending the initiative.

Over the weekend, President Leslie Voltaire visited Kenscoff and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to restoring stability. However, the criminal organization Viv Ansanm continues to pose a significant threat, disrupting citizens’ daily lives.
