Mercedes Narcisse: For Community. For Compassion. For Brooklyn.
In an era when New Yorkers are seeking trustworthy, principled leadership, few figures stand taller than Mercedes Narcisse. As the Council Member representing Brooklyn’s 46th District—which includes Canarsie, Flatlands, Marine Park, Mill Basin, Georgetown, and neighboring communities—Narcisse has earned a reputation as a compassionate public servant, a relentless advocate, and a powerful voice for working families.
From Saint-Marc to City Hall: A Haitian-American Success Story
Born in Saint-Marc, Haiti, Mercedes Narcisse was raised by her grandmother before immigrating to Brooklyn at the age of 17. Arriving in a new country without speaking English, Narcisse faced early challenges with determination. She graduated from Samuel J. Tilden High School and subsequently earned her credentials as a registered nurse from the New York City College of Technology.
With more than 30 years in the healthcare field, Narcisse’s dedication to helping others is the cornerstone of her personal and professional life. In 2001, she opened her own medical practice, combining compassion with entrepreneurial drive. Her nursing background continues to inform her work in public office, where she advocates for public health, elder care, and mental health access.
Rising Through Adversity: A Political Fighter with Grassroots Roots
Mercedes Narcisse’s political career is one of grit and resilience. After multiple attempts to win elected office, she achieved a decisive victory in 2021, winning the Democratic primary and securing 63% of the vote in the general election. Her success came not through establishment support, but through the power of the people: unions, grassroots advocates, and endorsements from leaders like Public Advocate Jumaane Williams.
Rather than conforming to party machines, Narcisse has consistently charted her own path, emerging as an independent and principled leader who stands firm in her beliefs and prioritizes community needs above political convenience.
Confronting Misinformation with Integrity
As the 2025 election nears, Narcisse’s campaign has remained focused on facts, service, and solutions, despite a surge of unfounded claims and misleading rhetoric from her opponent. While others have relied on rumor, personal attacks, and distortion of the truth, Narcisse has stayed above the fray, letting her record of service speak for itself. In a time when misinformation can divide communities and derail progress, she remains committed to honest leadership, respectful dialogue, and addressing real issues that impact everyday lives.
Delivering Results: Real Leadership for Southern Brooklyn
Since taking office on January 1, 2022, Council Member Narcisse has delivered meaningful results for her constituents:
- Infrastructure & Safety: She championed street safety measures, advanced stormwater drainage initiatives to reduce flooding, and invested in beautifying local parks and playgrounds.
- Support for Families: Narcisse has secured increased funding for after-school programs, senior services, and youth development.
- Community-Centered Housing Policy: She has opposed zoning changes that would eliminate parking requirements or alter neighborhood character without community input.
- Public Health Advocacy: Leveraging her healthcare experience, she has been a leader on mental health services, elder care, and healthcare access in underserved communities.
A Trailblazer for the Haitian-American Community
As one of the few Haitian-American elected officials in New York City, Mercedes Narcisse is a symbol of pride and hope for the Haitian diaspora. Her journey—from immigrant to healthcare provider to elected leader—is a testament to what is possible when perseverance meets purpose.
Narcisse frequently participates in Haitian and Caribbean cultural events, supports immigrant services, and advocates for inclusive policies that reflect the diversity of her district. Her story inspires Haitian youth and affirms the importance of representation in government.
A Bold Vision for the Future
Looking ahead to the 2025 election, Mercedes Narcisse is running on a platform grounded in experience and community priorities. Her re-election campaign focuses on:
- Expanding affordable housing without compromising neighborhood identity
- Equitable funding for public schools and essential services
- Support for small businesses and local entrepreneurs
- Safer communities, with a balanced approach that avoids over-policing
Her vision is clear: build a more equitable, safe, and opportunity-rich Brooklyn for all.
Why Brooklyn Needs Mercedes Narcisse
In a political landscape too often dominated by special interests and shallow promises, Mercedes Narcisse stands out as a genuine, effective, and compassionate leader. She is a mother, a nurse, a business owner, and above all, a neighbor who listens and responds.
Her record speaks for itself:
- Historic investments in education, libraries, and green spaces
- Top-tier constituent services that meet residents’ needs
- An unwavering presence in the community she serves and loves
Grounded in Community. Focused on Results.
Mercedes Narcisse’s deep roots in Brooklyn’s 46th District, combined with her track record of service and advocacy, make her a uniquely qualified leader for these times. Her work ethic, integrity, and genuine care for the people continue to earn her the trust of Southern Brooklyn residents.
