Clinton Benoit is preparing to introduce audiences to a new musical style and band with Konpa Metal, the next chapter in a musical journey that began with his 2010 album, Funky Konpa.
Benoit first brought Funky Konpa to listeners by combining Haitian konpa rhythms with elements of funk, rock, and jazz. The project reflected his interest in expanding the sound of konpa while keeping its Haitian foundation at the center.
A follow-up took longer than fans had hoped. Benoit’s professional responsibilities outside the music industry delayed the project, leaving listeners to wonder how he might build on the sound of his first solo album.
Now, Benoit is preparing to bring Konpa Metal to the market as both a band and a new musical direction. Its debut album, The Beat Was Funky, is scheduled for release in December, 2026. The project draws on the rhythmic spirit of Funky Konpa while introducing a heavier sound and new arrangements.
For Benoit, Konpa Metal represents another effort to stretch the possibilities of Haitian music and bring konpa to new audiences. The project also gives longtime fans a chance to hear how his sound has developed since 2010.
With the release date approaching, anticipation is growing for Benoit’s return with a new band and style. After introducing Funky Konpa, he is preparing to open another chapter with Konpa Metal and The Beat Was Funky.
