RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — Cristiano Ronaldo could become a minority owner of Al Nassr if investment firm RedBird Capital Partners reaches a deal to acquire a stake in the Saudi soccer club, according to reports.

RedBird founder Gerry Cardinale confirmed that he had been contacted about exploring the opportunity. He told Italy’s La Gazzetta dello Sport that discussions remain at an early stage and that no final decision has been made.

Cardinale said he would like to meet Ronaldo to discuss the player’s plans after retirement and whether he wants to remain involved with Al Nassr. Ronaldo, 41, joined the club in 2023. His current playing contract is expected to run through June 2027.

THE DEAL WATCH

Potential buyer: RedBird Capital Partners
Club: Al Nassr, currently owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund
Ronaldo’s possible role: Reportedly a minority investor
Status: Preliminary discussions; no agreement announced

A purchase would add Al Nassr to RedBird’s soccer investments. The firm acquired an 85% stake in French club Toulouse in 2020 and bought Italian club AC Milan in 2022. Cardinale has said he remains open to evaluating opportunities involving multiple clubs.

The possible ownership role for Ronaldo has not been confirmed by the player or the club. The price, ownership shares and timeline for any transaction remain unclear.
