Senior FBI Official Brian Driscoll Ousted Amid Internal Shake-Up

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Brian Driscoll, a high-ranking FBI official who briefly served as acting director during the early days of the Trump administration, is being forced out of the agency, according to two sources familiar with the decision. His final day on the job is expected to be Friday.

Driscoll had notably resisted internal efforts to disclose the identities of FBI agents involved in the investigations surrounding the January 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection. His removal comes amid widespread changes in leadership and growing internal turmoil within the bureau. The reasons behind his ouster remain undisclosed, and the sources spoke anonymously due to the confidential nature of the personnel matter. The FBI has declined to comment publicly.

His departure is part of a sweeping personnel overhaul led by current FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy Director Dan Bongino. Over the past several months, multiple senior officials — including leaders of major field offices — have been pushed out. Some FBI agents have also been subjected to polygraph testing, a move that has stirred unease among bureau staff, according to former officials.

Driscoll is a veteran in counterterrorism, with experience overseeing international operations out of New York and leading the FBI’s elite Hostage Rescue Team. Most recently, he was in charge of the bureau’s Critical Incident Response Group, which manages rapid deployments during national emergencies.

As the FBI undergoes significant restructuring, further high-level dismissals are expected in the coming weeks.
