Martine Moïse Calls for Declassification of U.S. Documents on Jovenel Moïse Assassination

Port-au-Prince, Haiti – Martine Moïse, the widow of Haiti’s late President Jovenel Moïse, has issued a public plea for the declassification of U.S. documents related to her husband’s assassination. In a message posted on X (formerly Twitter), she directly appealed to former U.S. President Donald Trump, urging him to use his influence to uncover the truth behind the brutal killing of her husband, which took place in their private residence on the night of July 6-7, 2021.
Jovenel Moïse, who was serving as Haiti’s president at the time of his assassination, was killed by a group of armed men who stormed his home in Pèlerin, a suburb of Port-au-Prince. The attack, which also left Martine Moïse critically wounded, sent shockwaves through Haiti and the international community, sparking concerns over security, governance, and foreign involvement. Despite numerous arrests and investigations spanning multiple countries, key questions about the motives and masterminds behind the assassination remain unanswered.
In her recent call for action, Martine Moïse emphasized the importance of transparency, believing that classified U.S. documents could hold critical information regarding the orchestration of the attack. “The world deserves to know the truth about my husband’s assassination,” she wrote. Her appeal to Trump underscores her ongoing frustration with the pace of the investigation and her belief that external influences may have played a role in the tragic event.
The assassination of Jovenel Moïse plunged Haiti into further political instability, exacerbating the nation’s struggles with gang violence, economic turmoil, and governance crises. His death left a leadership vacuum, with the country still grappling with the aftermath as it seeks justice and accountability.
While the U.S. government has been involved in aspects of the investigation, including the extradition of suspects and the indictment of individuals linked to the plot, there has been no official confirmation regarding the existence of classified materials related to the case. Martine Moïse’s request for declassification could put renewed pressure on both Haitian and U.S. authorities to accelerate their efforts in bringing those responsible to justice.
As Haiti continues to seek closure, the call for transparency grows louder. Whether or not Martine Moïse’s appeal will yield results remains uncertain. Still, her determination reflects the ongoing quest for truth and justice in one of the most shocking political assassinations in recent history.
