Konpa Kingdom 2024 at Barclays Center: Canceled Amid Controversy and Logistic Failures
BROOKLYN, NY – In a surprising and disappointing turn of events, the highly anticipated Konpa Kingdom 2024, scheduled for Labor Day at the Barclays Center, has been officially canceled. The event, set to be a grand celebration of Haitian music and culture, has succumbed to low ticket sales and significant logistical challenges. The cancellation has also exposed a growing rift between the event’s promoter, Jay Upscale, and several influential Haitian promoters.
Ticket Sales and Visa Challenges
Sources close to the event revealed that the Konpa Kingdom 2024 Carnival ticket sales were alarmingly low, failing to meet even the most modest projections. This shortfall played a critical role in the decision to cancel the event. The underwhelming ticket sales have been attributed to various factors, including ineffective marketing and a lack of engagement from the target audience.
Compounding the issue, some headline acts from Haiti, including headliners Boukman Eksperyans, T-Ansyto, Shabba, and Ekip Band.
Shabba and Boukman Experience needed more time to secure their visas and travel to the United States. Despite their significance in the Haitian music scene, the delayed visa applications led to unavoidable delays, ultimately preventing their participation in the event.
The Promoters’ Discontent
Insiders have revealed that disagreements over the event’s management, promotional strategies, and financial arrangements created a tense atmosphere long before the cancellation was announced. These disputes reportedly led to a fragmented promotional effort, further disappointing ticket sales. The cancellation has also brought to light a simmering feud between Jay Upscale and several traditional Haitian promoters.
Many of these traditional promoters were reportedly displeased with Jay Upscale’s attempts to elevate the Haitian music scene to more significant, more prestigious stages. According to one insider, they prefer to keep Haitian music within its established, intimate venues like Brasserie Creole and Amazura, where the cultural authenticity of the setting is preserved. The push for grander venues, spearheaded by a promoter who is not Haitian, has sparked resentment among those who believe Haitian music should remain rooted in its traditional settings. “They want to keep it low-key and maintain the status quo, but Jay is trying to bring Haitian music to a different level,” one insider reported to the Haitian Tribune.
This conflict between Jay Upscale and the Haitian promoters underscores broader challenges within the Haitian entertainment industry, where disagreements over control, vision, and financial interests often stifle collaboration. The cancellation of such a high-profile event is a significant blow to the reputations of all parties involved and has left many fans deeply disappointed.
Looking Ahead
For fans of Haitian music, the cancellation of Konpa Kingdom 2024 is a significant letdown, particularly given the event’s potential to showcase some of the biggest names in the genre at a world-renowned venue like Barclays Center. As the dust settles, questions arise about the future of large-scale Haitian music events in the United States and whether the involved parties can overcome their differences to organize similar events successfully in the future.
As this story continues to unfold, many will be watching closely to see how the promoters, bands, and fans navigate the aftermath of this cancellation. Whether this will serve as a cautionary tale or a learning experience for future endeavors in the Haitian music industry remains to be seen.

Konpa Kingdom Kanaval Postponed Due to Headliners’ Visa
Brooklyn, New York – Thursday, August 29th – It is with deep regret that we announce the postponement of Konpa Kingdom, initially scheduled for Labor Day, Monday, September 2nd, 2024. This difficult decision comes from unforeseen delays in the visa processing for most of our headliners: Boukman Eksperyans, T-Ansyto, Shabba, and Ekip Band.
We held onto optimism, hoping for a different outcome, but 72 hours before the event, no updates regarding their visas were received. While this is not the news we wanted to share, we believe in maintaining transparent communication with our valued patrons. Because of your support and to maintain the quality associated with our brand, we cannot, in good conscience, deliver a show that falls short of the experience we’ve been advertising.
Rather than offering a partial lineup or compromising the overall production, we have decided to postpone the Konpa Kingdom Kanaval experience until 2025. This will allow us to present the full lineup and deliver the exceptional event we envisioned. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with these outstanding artists, maintaining our strong relationship, and honoring their enduring legacies in Haitian music.
All ticket purchasers will receive a full refund and a 25% discount on their next Konpa Kingdom experience. We understand the disappointment this may cause, and we appreciate your understanding. Rest assured, we will soon make a huge announcement about our new date and the full artist lineup. We remain committed to bringing you an unforgettable Konpa Kingdom experience.
