Wilson Isidor scores twice as the Grenadiers deliver a commanding performance in Concacaf Nations League play
SANTO DOMINGO — Haiti handed the Dominican Republic a painful 4–1 defeat Thursday night, October 1, at the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium, turning a tense island rivalry into a commanding away victory in the Concacaf Nations League.
Louicius Deedson struck early, scoring in the ninth minute to give Haiti the lead. The Grenadiers carried that advantage into halftime after a disciplined opening period, controlling the tempo in front of a reported sold-out crowd of more than 21,000.
Haiti raised the pressure after the break. Wilson Isidor scored in the 51st minute, then added another in the 67th to put the visitors firmly in control. The Dominican Republic managed to get on the scoreboard, but Haiti answered again: Yassin Fortuné headed home in the 76th minute from a cross by Ruben Providence, restoring the three-goal margin and sealing the 4–1 result.
The performance showed Haiti’s attacking depth and composure on the road. Deedson set the tone early, Isidor delivered the decisive scoring burst, and Fortuné’s late goal capped a second half in which Haiti repeatedly punished the hosts’ defensive gaps.
For the Dominican Republic, the loss ended an unbeaten start to the group campaign and exposed how quickly the match shifted after halftime. For Haiti, the win brought three important points and strengthened the Grenadiers’ position in Group A of League A. The result was especially meaningful because it came in Santo Domingo, on the Dominican team’s home field.
The 4–1 scoreline gave Haitian supporters a result to celebrate and confirmed Haiti’s dominance on the night. The Grenadiers leave Santo Domingo with a statement victory—and their island rivals left searching for answers.
