Prime Minister Looking for National Security Partnerships with the United Arab Emirates

Abu Dhabi, October 2024 — In a significant move to bolster Haiti’s national security, Prime Minister Garry Conille is in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to seek strategic partnerships aimed at strengthening the Haitian National Police (PNH) and the Armed Forces of Haiti (FADH). This initiative comes as Haiti continues its efforts to combat the growing threat of armed gangs that have destabilized large parts of the country.

During his visit, Conille is set to meet with top Emirati government officials to discuss a comprehensive cooperation agreement. The agreement would provide Haiti with enhanced security resources, including equipment and expertise, to help both the PNH and FADH tackle the escalating gang violence. Experts from Conille’s delegation have already begun assessing the necessary equipment, signaling the urgency and importance of this partnership.

In a statement to the press, Prime Minister Conille emphasized the importance of international cooperation in addressing Haiti’s security challenges. “We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of all Haitian citizens, and partnerships like the one we are pursuing with the UAE will provide us with the tools and support we need to restore order and stability,” he said.

This visit to the UAE is part of a broader diplomatic effort by the Haitian government to secure international assistance. Following his meetings in the UAE, Prime Minister Conille will travel to Kenya for discussions with President William Ruto. The talks in Kenya will focus on deploying additional police officers to Haiti, a critical step in the ongoing international effort to stabilize the country.

Kenya has played a prominent role in leading the international community’s response to Haiti’s security crisis. The upcoming arrival of Kenyan police forces will mark a significant milestone in reinforcing the PNH and improving security conditions. Prime Minister Conille’s meeting with President Ruto is expected to finalize the timeline for deploying these new contingents.

The Haitian government has made security its top priority as the country continues to grapple with the threat posed by well-armed and organized gangs. In recent months, gang violence has severely disrupted daily life in many parts of the country, making international cooperation vital in addressing this crisis.

As Prime Minister Conille forges new security partnerships, the hope is that these efforts will lead to tangible improvements in the safety and well-being of the Haitian people. His diplomatic engagements in the UAE and Kenya demonstrate the government’s commitment to working with international allies to bring peace and stability back to Haiti.

The Haitian Tribune will continue to provide updates on Prime Minister Conille’s diplomatic mission and the ongoing efforts to strengthen Haiti’s national security.
