PORT-AU-PRINCE — On Thursday, August 7, 2025, Laurent Saint-Cyr officially assumed leadership of Haiti’s Transitional Presidential Council (CPT), succeeding Fritz Alphonse Jean as part of the Council’s rotating presidency. This transition marks a significant moment as Saint-Cyr will oversee the final phase of the transitional government.

During the handover ceremony, held at the Villa d’Accueil, outgoing President Fritz Alphonse Jean described the moment as a powerful symbol of democratic continuity. He used the opportunity to reflect on his tenure, highlighting achievements made under his leadership and expressing confidence that these milestones have helped rekindle hope within the Haitian population.

The event was attended by Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, members of his administration, representatives from the Court of Cassation, members of the diplomatic and consular corps, and civil society organizations.

In his inaugural speech, Laurent Saint-Cyr expressed deep humility and patriotic commitment in accepting his new role, stating:

“Our country is facing one of the most severe crises in its history. The lives and futures of over 12 million Haitians—men, women, and children—depend on the decisions we will make in the coming days and weeks. The situation is alarming. This is no time for grand speeches. Action is urgently needed. Too much blood has been spilled, too much time lost. We must unite and deliver the results our people are waiting for.”

Laurent Saint-Cyr becomes the fourth and final rotating president of the CPT, following the terms of Edgard Leblanc Fils, Leslie Voltaire, and Fritz Alphonse Jean.

His tenure is expected to be critical in shaping the concluding chapter of Haiti’s transitional period.
