WASHINGTON, Sept. 24, 2026 — A federal judge has ordered the White House to restore press credentials for CNN, MS NOW and Politico while the three news organizations challenge the Trump administration’s decision to bar them.
U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly issued a temporary restraining order lasting 14 days. He found that the outlets were likely to succeed, at least on their claim that their credentials were revoked without due process. The administration did not dispute that they had received no advance notice or opportunity to contest the decision.
President Donald Trump announced the ban last week after criticizing the outlets’ reporting. The news organizations sued, arguing that the government had singled them out because of their coverage. The administration defended its authority to control White House access and raised national security concerns, but Kelly found little evidence in the court record to support that explanation.
The ruling restores access for now; it does not resolve the lawsuit. The court will consider whether to extend the protection as the case proceeds.
