PORT-AU-PRINCE — Haiti’s National Police (PNH) leadership met with Canada’s newly accredited ambassador, Alexandre Côté, on October 6 to review ongoing cooperation and projects intended to strengthen the police institution.
Acting PNH Director General Vladimir Paraison hosted Côté at the police headquarters, joined by members of the institution’s High Command. The ambassador was accompanied by Pascal Médieu, Canada’s new head of cooperation, and Pascal Courtemanche, chief of the Canadian police contingent.
The discussions focused on existing initiatives supported by Canada, including assistance delivered through the Agency for Support to a Professional and Inclusive Police. One priority is modernizing the PNH Inspector General’s office. Plans under discussion include acquiring a building suited to the office’s needs and printing hundreds of professional-conduct booklets for distribution to officers. The materials are intended to reinforce ethics, discipline, and respect for the law.
Officials also reviewed major infrastructure and officer-welfare proposals, including construction of a new PNH headquarters, a trauma center for police personnel, and a pension fund to support the families of officers killed in the line of duty.
Paraison thanked the Canadian government for its continued support and pledged the High Command’s full cooperation in advancing the projects, which he described as important to strengthening the police force and national security.
