Call for Financial Support

In addition to medical assistance, Álvarez underscored the critical need for financial support for the mission in Haiti. He urged countries that have pledged funds to honor their commitments promptly and maintain their contributions in a sustained manner. “We urgently call on all the countries that have pledged funds for this Mission in Haiti to respect their offers, to submit them now, and to maintain their contributions in a sustained manner,” Álvarez stated. He also encouraged nations that have not yet considered contributing to do so with the urgency the situation in Haiti demands.

Support for Prime Minister Garry Conille's Vision

Álvarez acknowledged the clear vision outlined by Haiti’s Prime Minister Garry Conille regarding the country’s future direction. He emphasized the need for the Security Council to expedite the implementation of resolutions 2653 and 2699, which pertain to the embargo on weapons and sanctions against sponsors and criminal organizations in Haiti. Álvarez’s support for Conille’s presentation underscored the importance of a coordinated and decisive international response to the crisis in Haiti.

International Community's Commitment

In his address, Álvarez praised the commitment and solidarity shown by the international community towards Haiti. He highlighted the significant contributions and leadership of countries like the United States, Canada, and Kenya, as well as the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). Álvarez also commended the leadership of UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the efforts of the Security Council in addressing the crisis. This collective support, according to Álvarez, is crucial for achieving stability and progress in Haiti.

In conclusion, Roberto Álvarez’s address at the UN Security Council reinforced the Dominican Republic’s humanitarian commitment to Haiti, called for increased financial support from the international community, and acknowledged the essential contributions of global leaders and

organizations. His remarks underscored the urgency and importance of a sustained and coordinated international effort to support Haiti during this critical time.
